Good evening, everyone! I was recently reminded that CICO (calories in calories out) is not a black and white, cut and paste, sure-fire way to lose weight. It seems weight loss should be that simple, but like a lot of TMI Facebook relationship statuses, it’s complicated.
For those of you who are tracking numbers and/or weighing and measuring, that is great. I support both of those methods, but perhaps not necessarily for a lifetime. They are great tools that can help teach portion control and intake awareness, but they are not always the most convenient. PLUS, here is some information that you may not be aware of, the FDA allows for a 20% error in all labeling. So, basically, all reality is an illusion.
However, one uncomplicated habit that can make a significant impact is learning how to create enough awareness to begin knowing what 80% full feels like. We all know what stuffed feels like, and we probably know what overstuffed feels like. Becoming aware of your fullness levels does take work. It’s a skill, and unless you already have some general gut health awareness, you may have no clue what 80% full looks like. Don’t get discouraged though because you know why? Because change is hard, and that’s okay. Also, failure is a part of growth. Also again, you can do hard things. You get the point.
I have attached an infographic that explains why CICO isn’t as simple as one may think it should be. Leave a comment below if you have any questions for me! Let’s chat!
xoxo
